Little Swans, a Yardley-based nursery, raised almost £200 last Friday for infants who need additional support in education.

Elaine Boulton, the owner of Little Swans, explained how the nursery was able to reach £200 in under 24 hours, "we have 117 children here a day so if you can imagine, nearly everyone brings in their pound and some bring extra".

The small nursery has been participating in Comic Relief and donating for over a decade, asking their children and staff to dress in spotty or striped t-shirts and bring in change for the cause.

Elaine highlighted how every contribution matters and how each year the figure is rising, "we do get parents that give five and ten pounds so every year it just gets better and better".

Sam Tranter, the nursery manager of Little Swans, applauded the 'positive impact' fundraising has as it brings awareness to the children and their parents whilst also being a fun and interactive day.

When asked about the effect of Comic Relief for nurseries like Little Swans, Elaine explained "it's a really good cause and Comic Relief caters for all sorts so it's very useful help".

Comic Relief is a UK-based organisation and annually aims to raise millions of pounds for those who suffer and are in poverty. They're best known for their yearly Red Nose Day and Sports Relief Days held in both primary and secondary schools across the UK.

This year Comic Relief successfully raised over £5 million, with help from schools and nurseries like Little Swans.
